Life is interesting, full of fun and purpose — yet inevitably filled with challenges. We live in a world where hardship seems to have become a norm, a “staple food” on many tables. Yet, even in such times, there is hope and assurance for the believer in Christ.
Apostle Paul said:
“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
— Romans 8:18
Indeed, the present time is laced with various trials — insecurity, crime, economic hardship (unemployment, inflation, scarcity), and family issues. The enemy’s target is to make the Christian life difficult and to tempt believers into denying their faith.
However, though these challenges will continue and even increase as signs of the end time, God’s Word assures us that we can rise above them and fulfill our destiny.
1. Major Areas of Challenges
A. Family and Marital Challenges
The family is the most vital institution in nation-building. Whatever affects the family directly influences the church and the nation.
Today, many families face issues such as financial strain, lack of unity, disobedient children, abuse, and divorce.
A strong family builds a strong church and a strong nation — this is why the devil constantly attacks the home.
To overcome these attacks, families must be governed according to the divine order — the “Act” that established the family — the Word of God.
B. Crisis of Faith
Another major challenge of our time is the crisis of faith.
This occurs when life’s difficulties cause believers to doubt God’s love and faithfulness. Questions such as “Why me?”, “Is serving God worth it?”, or “Why is my faith not working?” begin to arise.
Apostle Paul referred to these as “perilous times” (2 Timothy 3:1).
Many are tempted to believe that faith in God alone is not enough. But the Scripture warns:
“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which ye have received, let him be accursed.”
— Galatians 1:8
God never intends for the challenges of life to destroy us.
Rather, they are opportunities to grow stronger in Him.
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape.”
— 1 Corinthians 10:13
2. Keys to Overcoming Life’s Challenges
A. The God Factor
“For without Me ye can do nothing.” — John 15:5
“If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us…” — Psalm 124:2
Every lasting victory in life begins with God.
When Peter faced economic failure, he allowed Jesus to use his boat — and experienced an overflow (Luke 5:1–6).
When King David faced national crisis, he turned to God and found mercy (2 Samuel 24:14).
But when King Saul sought help from familiar spirits, he met his downfall (1 Samuel 28:6–7).
God promises help in times of crisis:
“And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.”
— Psalm 50:15
Decide today that you will not fail. Apostle Paul declared:
“For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities… shall be able to separate us from the love of God.”
— Romans 8:38–39
Let God be your strength in the day of adversity. Human strength will fail, but God’s strength endures forever.
“If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.”
— Proverbs 24:10
B. Plan Your Life
An unplanned life is like an unplanned city — chaotic, unstable, and full of struggle.
Many of life’s economic and social challenges become worse when there is no structure or vision guiding our actions.
Planning your life means setting clear goals for your finances, marriage, career, children, retirement, and spiritual growth — and then working them out with discipline and faith.
Those who fail to plan are easily tossed about by life’s storms, becoming victims of circumstance rather than victors in Christ.
An unplanned life will eventually end up like a slum — disorganized and broken.
C. Picture a Glorious Future
To overcome today’s challenges, you must see beyond your current situation.
Envision a glorious, victorious future — a better you, a stronger faith, a fulfilled destiny.
“Looking unto Jesus… who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
— Hebrews 12:2
Vision creates perseverance.
When some Nigerian migrants were asked why they risked their lives crossing the Sahara Desert and the Mediterranean Sea, they said:
“We had in our minds the picture of a beautiful Europe as the promised land, and the hope of getting there kept us going.”
If an earthly vision can drive such persistence, how much more should the vision of God’s promises propel us to endure and overcome!
3. The Right Perspective on Challenges
Challenges are not meant to destroy us, but to build our faith and character.
They are part of the journey to maturity and victory in Christ.
“Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.”
— Acts 14:22
Make up your mind to remain steadfast in faith, no matter the pressure.
Let heaven be your constant focus — your waking thought and your sleeping meditation.
Conclusion
We live in challenging times, but victory is sure for those who put their trust in God.
When your strength fails, draw on His strength.
When life seems uncertain, cling to His Word.
When the storms rage, keep your eyes on the glorious future He has promised.
With God, you will not just survive the challenges of the time — you will overcome them and emerge stronger.
