Missions in the changing world

The world around us is constantly evolving, and I want to believe that this is part of God’s agenda for His church in reaching the world with the good news of Jesus. This is part of the wisdom that God has ordained for the glory of the church. But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom which God ordained before unto our glory which none of the none of the princes of this knew…” 1 cor. 2:7,8

Had Apostle Paul lived in our days, he would have used all these changes around us for the advancement of the gospel.

Globalization is changing   the approach to Christian mission, and every believer should  leverage on this in the pursuit of his or her ministry to the unreached.

The current trend in global arena is witnessing a rise in global terrorism, natural disaster hitting everywhere so frequently, Eurozone crisis, failure of several banks, increase in migration and increase in secularization. These global trend, though negative could be leverage upon to advance the gospel and mission business. We need not close up and run back into our shells but rather to step out and speak.

In reaction to these untoward trends, our focus is being shifted to survival rather than living for God and engaging in His mission. The changing world has fuelled our instinct for survival and in a way deadened our sense of mission and blurred our view of the field. Even our churches ladden with the yoke of materialism and quest for glossy and imposing cathedrals, could only handle the issue of mission and evangelism with soft gloves, and that of course softens her conscience.

We are certainly living in some of the most paradigm shifting times in relation to advancing the kingdom of God (also in relation to the world’s economy, as we see a decline and stagnancy in the growth rate of most developed economies. The focus on the developing economies has therefore ensued)

Globalization is irrefutable, it has come to stay, it has no regard for color or race. It only has a sense of humor for equity and delivery. Our mission and mandate therefore comes into scene more than ever in this specific context.

“And he said to them, go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” Mark 16:15

The question you might want to ask yourself at this point, is how do I realize my mission of reaching the world with the gospel?

The following suggestion will help you.

SEEK TO LIVE FOR CHRIST

“And Jesus answered and said this is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent” John 6:29

In the changing world, the word of God has not changed, therefore live for Jesus, do what he would do and live the way he would live. Seek to connect with others. Mission business is not a lone-deal. All cannot go to the field, but all can participate in the harvest. If you cannot go your money can go.

“But as his part is who goes down to the battle, so shall his part be who stays by the supplies, they shall share alike” 2 Sam. 30:24

USING ELECTRONIC CHANNEL TO COMMUNICATE THE GOSPEL.

You can be involved in mission reaching to others through the medium like Facebook and other social networking services.

LEVERAGING ON OUR DIFFERENCIES AND DIVERSITY.

The wisdom of God is seen in the beauty of diversity. Do you realize that what you possess are the needs of others, and your needs are in the domains of others. This is God’s doing to keep us together in reaching the world for Him. Nigeria, endowed with abundance of wealth has the advantage of diversity, something to be explored to the benefit of all. This has turned out to be a cyclone destroying the peace and structure of the country (the greedy leaders, the so called “kingmakers” are the musicians playing the drums for the dancers) using what you have to meet the needs of others gives you the platform and access to reach unto them with the aim of influencing them for Jesus. Finally, find a simple and more dynamic way to serve in your local church and your neighborhood.
